1. INTRODUCTION.

This notice describes the installation of PXS version 254.1 and the upgrade from PXS20x and PXS25x versions. PXS254 itself is described in the new manual while the specific features of each release between PXS205 and PXS254, are described in Appendix B.

PXS254 is supported on VME releases SV291 to SV293.

2. COMPATIBILITY WITH PREVIOUS ISSUES.

PXS254 is highly compatible with earlier PXS definitions and compiled SCL. Provided that work definitions are not updated or code re-compiled there is full reverse compatibility.

Details can be found in Appendix C.

3. INSTALLATION.

PXS normally runs in VME's JXS scheduler but for demonstrations or testing, a free-standing test scheduler, PXS, is used. This can be run in parallel with PXS200 work in JXS. Existing work definitions can be invoked to test schedulers without changing PROFILE. This means that work tested on the test PXS254 can run unchanged with either the old or new versions when live.

Appendix D describes the installation routes for first time users, demonstration users and users upgrading from PXS200, PXS252 and PXS253.

4. PRODUCT DEPENDENCIES.

PXS Network facilities depend on ICL's ADI option.

5. REPAIR STATE.

The following general patches applicable to PXS254.0 have already been applied at release 254.1:

PD003.001 PXSS006.001 PXSW002.002 PXGM002.001

Patch PXAE001.1 should be applied to PXS200; this improves the detection of incompatible PXS252 definition files (see Appendix C.2 Backwards Compatibility).

6. FUTURE UPGRADES.

The next release of PXS will assume that all upgrade is from PXS254
